February Update

This year we will be returning to the Davis Lar Children’s Home to continue the ministry and activities we started last year. We are planning to minister to the children at the Lar, the missionaries on site and the people in the community.
The children are on vacation from school during the month of July and they get very bored from having nothing to do. Last year, according to Paige Anderson, the team provided much needed activities for the children to keep them “out of trouble.” We plan to continue the activities from last year such as recreation, scrapbooking, CPR/First aid training as well as shop training and some craft ideas to help them learn something they can do to earn some money.
As an outreach to the community, we are also working with the missionaries to get us into a favela (slum) to do a project there.

Thank You For Your Support

Last year’s trip was a tremendous success because of your support through your prayers, financial support and donation of supplies. We want to express our heart felt thanks to you for the success of our trip.
You have already shown your support this year by participating in Spirit Night at Chic-Fil-A and by your financial support for the team members.
We will be keeping you aware of our needs and fundraising activities as we prepare for this year’s trip.
Our newsletter each month will list our current prayer needs. As you pray, ask God to reveal to you how he wants you to support this effort.
Due to the current economic situation, many of our team members will have more need for financial support. As God blesses you, we ask that you consider supporting a team member.

Prayer Needs

Spiritual preparation:
Finding at least one prayer partner for each team member

Travel arrangements:
We are so thankful for our travel arrangements this year. We will be able to leave from GSP and we will change in Atlanta to a direct flight to Fortaleza, Brazil. There was major cause for rejoicing when we learned we could leave from GSP, no overnight in Atlanta and we were able to get seats on the direct flight. There was even more rejoicing when we realized that it is going to be cheaper than the ’08 flights, it is a domestic carrier and there is no overnight layover in Miami.
Work in Brazil:
Clarity in planning – knowing God’s will in what He plans for us to do at the Davis Lar
Supplies and materials for the work we’ll be doing
Relationships we will build with Mark and Paige and the kids at the Lar
Funds:
Fund raising efforts
Keeping trip expenses low
The Team:
To date, twenty people have made a commitment to go to the Davis Lar this year. We are
excited at the interest shown and look forward to what God is going to do. We have twelve ’08 returnees and eight new members. We’ll be sharing the trip roster with you as we get closer to the cut-off date for finalizing our travel plans.
With the tough economic situation in our country, we know our faith will be tested as we work to fund this trip. But we do know that if it is God’s will, He will supply the funds. We ask you to pray for each person on the team that we will know God’s will, that our faith will remain strong, and that He will supply our needs as we prepare to go back to the Davis Lar.
